Materials
To assist candidates in preparing for the PMP exam, PMI recommends a list of 10 references here. However, according to the experience of successful exam preparation guidance from Atoha, participants usually only need 05 main documents as follows:
PMI Authorized PMP® Exam Prep
This is the official PMP exam prep materials from PMI, latest update in January 2023, produced by PMI and distributed exclusively to Authorized Training Partners (PMI ATP - Authorized Training Partners). When registering to study at Atoha, participants will be provided with a set of copyrighted materials for a period of 1 year because Atoha is a PMI ATP - Authorized Training Partners.
The PMI Authorized PMP® Exam Prep document account will be emailed by Logical Operations (PMI's partner in charge of PMI Authorized PMP® Exam Prep online documentation) to each participants, containing the [IMPORTANT] KEY & login instructions. Participants login to Logical Operations website https://pmi.lochoice.com/ with PMI ID, then enter KEY to use. For participants who do not have a PMI ID, create a free PMI ID on pmi.org (note that PMI ID is NOT PMI membership). For optimal results, Atoha encourages participants to refer to this document as thoroughly as possible. This is a MUST read document.
PMBOK 7th
PMBOK Guide 7th (A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge and the Standard for Project Management) is a comprehensive book of standard knowledge and guide on project management, developed by PMI.
It is not correct for participants to think that just reading PMBOK is enough to pass PMP. Unlike previous exams; since Jan 2, 2021; the PMP exam will have about 50% of the content related to Agile or Hybrid. It can be said that PMBOK is very important and is a central learning material; but just learning PMBOK will not guarantee PMP pass results. This is a RECOMMENDED MUST READ document.
Agile Practice Guide (APG)
This is a document compiled by PMI and Agile Alliance that provides the practical guidance for planning and implementing projects according to the Agile methodology. With the new PMP exam having about 50% of the content related to Agile or Hybrid, this is the document you need to learn the Agile related knowledge in the scope of the PMP exam. This is a MUST read document.
ECO 2021
This is the exam outline that all questions and exam preparation materials need to follow. Capturing ECO will help participants identify the knowledge you need to focus on, thereby increasing the ability to pass the PMP exam and even achieve a maximum score of 3AT (3 Above Target). This is a MUST read document.
Process Groups: A Practice Guide
This newly released book of PMI 2023 is an important supplementary document that helps participants shape the process part of project management (accounting for 50% of the current PMP exam content) with a streamlined writing style, focused and easy to understand. Called Process Group for short.
Training Outline
14 sessions corresponds to 14 weeks (~ 3.5 months), participants should study around 2-3 hours/day to keep up with the progress.
Before class: Participants read PMI Authorized PMP® Exam Prep and references listed in Outline.
After every session: Participants do the exercises corresponding to each session on SEW Online Test System.
In particular, after session 5 and session 10, there will be a review session for instructors and participants to discuss, and evaluate the knowledge learned and plan the next actions to successfully conquer the goal of passing the PMP as soon as possible.

Effective learning method
1. Before class
Before attending each session, participants need to read the corresponding material according to each session as listed in the Training Outline, including PMI Authorized PMP® Exam Prep, PMBOK 7th, Agile Practice Guide and Process Group.
2. Active interaction in class
Listen carefully when the instructor explain new knowledge.
Actively ask and answer instructor's questions to define any problem and knowledge gaps if any.
Try to answer and explain the rationale for your answer. So you can familiarize yourself with the way the question is formulated and "adjust your thinking" according to PMI mindset.
Note: In case participants cannot attend a certain session, please contact Atoha Support Team to arrange another suitable schedule or review the video of the online class (free of charge).
3. Actively exchange knowledge via online group
Besides class time, the instructors are available to support students online via Zalo group. Also in this Zalo group, the daily questions are sent regularly to increase the interactivity and build your learning habit.
Participants are recommended to actively review the video lectures provided by Atoha to review their knowledge.
Participants are highly recommended to actively practice questions on the SEW online test system.
SEW Online Test System
1. About SEW Online Test System
SEW Online Test System (SEcret Weapon - atoha.moodlecloud.com) includes all necessary exam verified questions. It is continuously updated (based on PMI ATP Premier Cloned test), available on mobile app (iOS and Android) and web service formats. SEW is an effective support tool, helping participants conveniently practice exercises anytime, anywhere. Once granted a SEW access account, Atoha is confident that participants can Pass PMP with Maximum Results on the first attempt without having to buy any other external learning materials.
SEW includes the following resources:
- Practice test according to each session
- Mastery Builder test by Lesson (exclusively for PMI ATP) from PMI Authorized PMP® Exam Prep
- Bonus test related to Agile
- Minitest
- Fulltest (includes exclusive PMI ATP Premier - Cloned test - extremely important)
- Super (exclusively from Atoha)
Most especially, in the Fulltest, there will be an exclusive set of PMP Cloned Questions from PMI sent to Atoha, helping participants to get acquainted with the mindset of the test creator. This set of questions includes the complete PMI Cloned PMP Exam Questions 2021 with 180 questions, and constantly updated from PMI. During the period of 4-2 weeks before the exam date, participants will be given a Password to access these exclusive exam resources.
Jun, 2021 Update: PMI continues to send more than 430 PMP Cloned questions to Atoha. Atoha participants will be able to do more of these PMP Cloned tests from June 15, 2021 onwards.
Nov, 2021 Update: PMI continues to send 2 question-sets to Atoha.
Nov, 2022 Update: PMI continues to send 1 PMP® Mini Cloned question-sets to Atoha.
Q1, 2023 Update: PMI continues to send 1 PMP® Mini Cloned question-sets to Atoha.
Q1, 2024 Update: PMI continues to send 1 PMP® Mini Cloned question-sets to Atoha.
2. How to use SEW effectively
SEW will include Practice test (test for each session/chapter), Minitest (around 30-50 questions/test) and Fulltest (the same as the real test, including 180 questions in 230 minutes). Below is a guideline to use SEW:
First, Practice test. From week 1 to week 13, participants need to do the Practice test according to the order in the Training Outline every week. After completing any test, it is mandatory to RFG (Review & Fill Gaps) thoroughly before moving on to the next test.
Second, Minitest. From week 14 onwards, participants start doing Minitest. You should do at least 03 PMP Lite Mock Exam.
Last, Fulltest:
- Follow the order in SEW
- “Must” test: you can not skip these tests.
- “Recommended/Highly Recommended” test: you should do at least 2 tests of each type. It is recommended to do at least 2 Preps and RFG carefully before taking the PMI test.
- Compulsory tests are PMI Fulltest PMP Cloned 10d, 10e exclusive from PMI. The passwords for these tests are only given to participants after you have done at least Prep test and 10a.
- The Cloned 10d, 10e tests are high quality ones and you should only try these tests after the previous ones have been completed and RFG carefully.
3. About the test results
According to the statistics of hundreds of Atoha students who have passed the PMP certification exam, when a participants has 3 consecutive Fulltests, different sources, on the first try with a result of over 75%, they are almost certain to pass (99.99%).
Note:
- Only the result on the first try applies to this rule. As for the 2nd and 3rd attempts, it is not correct.
- The results should be given from different sources such as 10a, 10d, 10e, Prep, RTM... "Different source" is to ensure that the score is not high because of familiarity with one test source.
- The result is excellent if you could achieve more than 70% on Test 10a (of PMP 2020). All students who did more than 70% on the first try of 10a got a maximum score of 5 Above Target when taking the PMP 2020 exam. Even with the exception of someone who did 10a with about 65%, they also got the maximum score in the real exam.
- The result is outstanding if you could achieve approximately 70% on The PMI Cloned 10d, 10e (PMP 2021). If so, it is most likely you would achieve a maximum score of 3AT (3 Above Target) when taking the exam in 2021.
If the Fulltest scores above 70%, there is a high probability of passing PMP max score 3AT on the first try.
If the Fulltest scores 65%-70%, there is a high probability of passing but may not reach the maximum score.
If the Fulltest reaches 60%-65% then there is quite risky.
If the Fulltest is less than 60% then it is likely to fail, and you are not ready for the PMP exam.
Review & Fill Gap
1. Value of RFG
To confidently Pass PMP, participants should not focus on the number of questions, but the quality each time you answer a question. The most effective way to measure your answer quality is RFG. Participants should only take a new test after thoroughly RFG the previous test, ensuring that all existing knowledge gaps are filled. This RFG rule must be strictly adhered to in order to maximize the result of the practice tests.
2. RFG Duration
The RFG duration should be 2-5 times the test time to ensure that each time you Fill Gap, you learn a lesson and you will not make the same mistake twice in the future. When RFG, participants need to read the question / each option carefully and then check the results and explanations of the author. After that, you should compare the relevant knowledge in the books (page XX of the specific YY book) to Fill Gap effectively.
3. Instructions on how to properly RFG
RFG all incorrect answers.
RFG all correct answers that used the elimination method of reasoning.
RFG all the correct answers with at least 1 unknown option.
RFG using PMI Authorized PMP® Exam Prep + PMBOK + Agile Practice Guide + ECO + Atoha slides thoroughly.
The most important document is the copyright document from PMI: PMI Authorized PMP® Exam Prep
4. The sequence of documents used to Review and Fill Gaps
PMBOK.
Process Groups: A Practice Guide.
Agile Practice Guide.
PMP® Exam Content Outline.
PMI Authorized PMP® Exam Prep.
Atoha slides.
Blogs: PMI Blogs, Atoha Blogs.
After researching the above documents and still not finding the answer or being unclear, participants can contact Atoha Trainers for support (via support groups or messages). Note that during the search process, documents provided by PMI or Atoha are official documents.
Learning tips
1. Tips to increase your ability to remember
Impressive phrases and sentences: When encountering long, hard-to-remember terms; list all its characteristics with the first 1-2 letters, then put it into a phrase/sentence that makes an impression on you. (Example: Kano Analysis is a tool & technique with 5 characteristics: basic, performance, delighter, reverse, indifferent. The first letters can be combined into BPDIR, based on that abbreviation you can make your own sentence).
Writing on paper will increase your memory.
Reading aloud so that your ears can hear it. This is proven to be more effective than silent reading.
For people with a fulltime job, going to bed early and studying early in the morning from 4-6AM will provide you with the highest focus, and you will not be distracted by work or family.
2. Motivational tips
Break the curriculum into small, achievable goals each day.
Form small groups of 2-5 students to promote group learning to increase efficiency.
Arranging the environment around you related to PMP. For example, cover computer and smartphone screens with PMP knowledge, bring flashcards (hardcopy or app) with you everywhere, stick PMP flow/ITTO/keywords everywhere in the house, etc.
Set a clear PMP pass date target. Then notify relatives/friends/family for support.
Pay and book your exam early to increase motivation.
3. Tips to get used to exam pressure
Practice doing Fulltest at the same time frame of the test day. For example, if you schedule the real test in the morning at 8AM, you should practice Fulltest in the morning at 8AM. This helps you get used to focusing on the test for about 4 hours, and will have many advantages when taking the real test.
PMP Exam Application
Participants prepare the PMP application according to this sample template.
Participants can refer to this sample project description.
After preparing the PMP application, participants send it to Atoha via email address hop.tran@atoha.com and chau@atoha.com. By then, Atoha will review and provide any necessary information to process the next steps.
After Atoha has reviewed and returned the final version of the PMP Application, participants will immediately be provided guidelines with:
Information about the next steps to register for the exam
Information about 35 contact hours.
Discount Code to reduce PMI membership fee (for new members) and reduce exam fee around 80-150 USD for all PMI certifications (discount depends on each certification).
Set exam schedule & choose exam slot
1. How to schedule an exam?
Participants book an exam and choose a test slot in a test center in any country that is most suitable (if taking the exam offline) or choose the most suitable online proctored exam slot.
See more: Exam Scheduling Instructions for Pearson VUE Testing
2. Reschedule
Participants can change the exam schedule later (you can change test center, online/offline format, date), in which:
# | More than 30 days before the exam date | From 30-02 days before exam date | Last 02 days before exam date |
Fee | No reschedule fee | 70 USD | You can not reschedule but you can cancel the exam |
Note 1: If you cancel the exam in the last 2 days before the exam date, you lose the entire paid exam fee.
Note 2: Cancel the exam is not counted as having failed once (maximum 3 times within 1 year).
Note 3: PMI will continue to waive fees for candidates who are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, receive a positive test result, have direct contact, or are required to be quarantined. PMI will also continue to waive fees for rescheduling or cancellations made by Pearson VUE related to Covid-19.
3. Advice from Atoha
Do: Reschedule before 30-day policy if you need to reschedule. You can actively change the schedule on the Pearson VUE website at no extra cost.
Do: Contact Atoha for advice in cases participants have difficulty taking the exam before a specific deadline (e.g. 1 year deadline from the date your application is approved by PMI).
Do: Follow the test date and time in Pearson VUE's confirmation email. Sometimes the information on PMI's website is from different timezone, so it may confuse you.
Don't: Reschedule within 30-0 days before the test date.
